HOARDING OF GOLD AND SILVER

JAMES 5:1-3
1 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.
2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.
3 Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

EZEKIEL 7:19

After 60 years of Zika in Asia, why worry?

Zika has been in Asia and the Pacific for at least 60 years, though its mostly mild symptoms have prompted little cause for concern. But with the World Health Organization declaring a global emergency after an outbreak in Brazil that's been linked to serious birth defects, some countries in the region are taking special precautions.

Tonga has declared an epidemic, and the government of the Cook Islands has advised women to delay becoming pregnant. Japan, South Korea, Nepal and India have issued advisories to pregnant women against travelling to infected countries.

South Korea has announced a fine of two million won (about $1,700) on doctors who fail to immediately report suspected cases, while Malaysia has asked travellers to the country to report to health centres if they have symptoms.

Nepal is trying to get rid of any standing water where the Aedes mosquito, which carries the Zika virus, can easily breed, said Dr. Babu Ram Marasini, director of the disease control division at the Department of Health Services.

“We carry out search and destroy campaigns, and request people to throw the water from external containers and dry them out for a few hours,” he said.

India has set up a technical group to monitor the situation, posted warnings at international airports and has promised to ramp up community awareness to stop mosquito breeding.

Although no cases of infection have ever been documented in India, it was in that country, back in 1953, where the first evidence emerged that Zika had jumped from animals to humans. In that study just six years after Zika was discovered in monkeys in Uganda, researchers from the National Institute of Virology, in the city of Pune, found that 33 out of 196 people surveyed had immunity to the virus.

For the most part, symptoms have not been particularly serious, usually a rash and a fever, and little attention was paid to Zika for a long time after the study. But in 2007, Zika exploded in the tiny Pacific island of Yap, in the Federated States of Micronesia, where almost three quarters of its approximately 10,000 inhabitants tested positive.

Six years later, Zika infected about 35,000 people in French Polynesia. It was there that researchers discovered the potential connection between the virus and Guillian-Barré syndrome, according to a 2014 article in Eurosurveillance, a scientific journal that focuses on communicable diseases. Guillian-Barré syndrome causes the immune system to attack the nervous system, leading to a weakening of the limbs and sometimes paralysis.

It is unclear how Zika arrived in Brazil, but researcher published in a US Center for Disease Control journal theorised last year that it may have arrived with participants from Pacific countries at the World Canoeing Championships in Rio de Janeiro in August 2014.

Zika is now spreading rapidly through the Americas after recently showing up first in Brazil, where there have been about 1.5 million cases. Preliminary research appears to show a link between Zika and Guillian-Barré syndrome as well as microcephaly, which can cause babies to be born with small heads and underdeveloped brains.

Despite Zika's relatively benign history in Asia and the Pacific, there is risk that a stronger form of the virus may have emerged, and that it could spread throughout the region with much more severe consequences than previous outbreaks.

"The strain in Brazil could be new because mutation rates in these viruses are high. Moist tropical climates, population explosion and international travel mean Asia is susceptible to Zika," said Dr. Shailendra Saxena, of the Indian Virological Society.

He said that rapidly growing populations in many Asian countries make them vulnerable to an outbreak of Zika. As migration to cities increases, so do slums with poor sanitation and stagnant water where mosquitoes can breed.

Why Tahiti Does So Great at the Beach Soccer World Cup When Its Grass Team Stinks So Much

When the Tahiti national soccer team scored a single goal in its 6–1 loss to Nigeria at the 2013 Confederations Cup, the team tweeted, “WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!!” Fans from around the world quickly fell in love with the nation's enthusiastic celebrations and underdog story.

Now, the country has once again found itself in the spotlight, except this time it’s with the beach soccer team. And this time it is actually good.

Since its formal founding in 1992, beach soccer has become one of the fastest growing sports in the world. The game, which is divided into three 12-minute periods, is played five a side—including a goalie—on a 35- to 37-meter by 26- to 28-meter sand court. In a typical match, there is relatively limited passing, and the ball is often in the air, a setup that demands well-honed technical skills and results in higher scoring than a traditional soccer game.

As of Thursday morning, Tahiti had won all of its matches at the 2015 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, including a 7–6 victory over two-time reigning champions Russia on Tuesday, earning a place in the quarterfinals. After an unprecedented semifinal appearance in 2013, when it became the first Pacific Islands nation to make it to the knockout stage of a FIFA tournament, Tahiti entered this year’s World Cup ranked 33 out of almost 100 international men’s teams. It's a remarkable statistic for a team pulling from a population of 280,000 and a country whose national sport is canoeing.

Tahiti’s beach squad is even more notable when you look further at the track record of its grass counterpart. Although the grass team has had a good deal of success against small nations (see the team’s recent 30–0 victory over Micronesia), Tahiti’s team—ranked 188 out of 209 FIFA member nations—pales in comparison to other soccer powers, as evidenced by its 10–0 loss to Spain in that 2013 Confederations Cup.

So why is Tahiti so successful on the sand when it has never even qualified for the grass World Cup?

Tahiti’s rise to beach soccer stardom can be explained by several factors besides its year-round warm weather.

First, Tahiti caught on quick to the trend. While the island country has had a beach team for most of the time the sport has formally existed, it only started its grass program in 1989, years behind the rest of the world. In addition, in 2013, Tahiti hosted the beach tournament, which increased local enthusiasm for the game.

The beach players also have more international experience. While the grass roster is made up of athletes who play part-time for Tahiti club teams and work the remainder of their days as accountants, teachers, or mountain/coconut tree climbers, at least five of the 14 beach competitors play for beach clubs outside of Tahiti such as FC Barcelona.

At the 2013 tournament, current Switzerland coach Angelo Schirinzi coached Tahiti’s beach squad. During his stay, he encouraged players to participate in Switzerland’s club league. Schirinzi, who is the author of a book about beach soccer, is considered an expert on the game. When he isn’t in Switzerland, he serves as a FIFA instructor, traveling around the world to deliver seminars and promote the sport.

Finally, it’s important to acknowledge that the games are actually pretty different, so it’s possible for a country to be talented at one sport but not necessarily the other. According to soccer-training-methods.com, few grass pros use beach soccer for training because it doesn’t develop strong passing skills and, given the unlimited substitution rule, it prepares players for a different kind of fitness.

Although the beach players are big shots nowadays, they certainly haven’t lost the beloved Tiki Toa underdog allure. Raimana Li Fung Kuee, a star striker for Tahiti, recently told FIFA.com, “[T]he biggest asset our country has to offer [is] our charm and the smiles on our faces. It’s our trademark.”

          Income and Financial Aid Eligibility
Income and Financial Aid Eligibility

Federal student aid does not have any explicit income cutoffs on need-based aid eligibility. The number of children in college can have a big impact on aid eligibility. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is used to calculate the Expected Family Contribution (EFC).

The EFC is the sum of a student contribution and a parent contribution, and the parent contribution is roughly divided by the number of children in college. So if the number of children in college increases, it can significantly cut the EFC and thereby allow a family to qualify for student aid despite having a higher income.

It is important to apply for financial aid every year even if you didn’t qualify for any financial aid last year. Suppose you apply for financial aid for your freshman year in college and don’t qualify for any aid because you are the first in your family to enroll. If you give up and stop submitting the FAFSA, you might miss out on a lot of financial aid in a subsequent year when you and one or more siblings are enrolled in college at the same time.

But even if you don’t qualify for grants it is still worthwhile to submit the FAFSA. The unsubsidized Stafford loan and the PLUS loan are available without regard to financial need. You can be extremely wealthy and still qualify for these loans. The Hope Scholarship tax credit is available to families with income up to $90,000 (single filers) and $180,000 (married filing joint).

Note that student employment can have a big impact on aid eligibility, especially for independent students. A portion of student income is sheltered from the financial aid formula, but as much as half of income above this income protection allowance will be counted as part of the EFC.

To be eligible for federal student aid, you must be a US citizen or permanent resident (green card holder). There are also a variety of types of noncitizens who are eligible for federal student aid, such as citizens of the Freely Associated States, the Federated States of Micronesia and the Republics of Palau and the Marshall Islands. Individuals who have been granted asylum or refugee status and victims of human trafficking are eligible for federal student aid.

Your parents, however, do not need to be US citizens or permanent residents. They can be foreign nationals or even undocumented. If your parents do not have a Social Security Number, use 000-00-0000 on the FAFSA where it asks for the parent’s Social Security Number. Do not use a Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN).

If your parents are not US citizens or permanent residents, they will be unable to borrow from the PLUS loan program. In that case you will be eligible for increased unsubsidized Stafford loan limits, the same limits that are available to independent students.

First Look - "Ozzy" of Survivor: South Pacific
Oscar "Ozzy" Lusth
Oscar "Ozzy" Lusth is a professional Survivor player and something else, I forget what his "real job" is. He made it to the final 3 in Survivor: Cook Islands, but found himself voted out in Survivor: Micronesia with an immunity idol in his pocket.

Ozzy is definitley one of the most physical players in Survivor, and good at challenges, but never got the social game down. It is clear from his interviews he has every intention of utilizing what he has learned from his last two seasons to fine tune his game.

Ozzy is definitley one to watch out for this season. And is easily a favorite to make it to the end and/or win the whole thing.

I see one of two things will happen with Ozzy. Either his tribe will see his having played three times as a threat and will boot him real quickly. A smart move considering Boston Rob, but I am not sure when this was filmed so they may not have Rob's performance as a point of reference.

Or else Ozzy will be seen as an asset for his experience, physical prowess and/or a bunch of star struck players. A likely possibility since there seem to be a lot of hard core Survivor fans this season. Possibly not by accident. If that happens he will go far and possibly to the end, especially if he goes into the merge with numbers like Rob did.

I am hopping it will be the former rather than the latter. I got nothing against Ozzy, he seems like a nice guy. But  while I don't mind the idea of former players coming back or even mixing with older players. But history has shown that the advantage of having player before is a very big one.

I don't want the show to end up becoming season after season of watching experience players beat rookies. It will get boring, and frankly it takes away from their victory. If the L.A. Lakers played a team of college freshmen, would it really be impressive if they won by a blowout?

Still regardless of what happens I think Ozzy will go pretty far. Even if his tribe is smart and sees that the threat of letting him sink his hooks in outweighs the advantages of keeping him around, there is still Redemption Island. If Ozzy goes to Redemption Island even near the beginning I think he will likely go far. It's possible that this season is his to loose.

Here is Ozzy's interview from CBS's YouTube site.
